Downtown Documents

Downtown Document is a new video series dedicated to showcasing the finest performers and performances in New York City's downtown art scene.

Our growing catalog presents artists and innovators whose work represents a cross-section of contemporary trends in music, dance, theatre, performance art, and multi-media work.

Downtown Document captures the unique edge of art created in the special test tube of downtown New York City, presents it in a dynamic, accessible format, and brings it into your living room, classroom, or library.

The first three videos feature performances by internationally renowned avant-jazz artists and New Music pioneers. Take advantage of this opportunity to discover Misako Kano, Alan Silva and the Visions Orchestra, and Hazardous Materials through Downtown Document.

Wie kommt man in die Philharmonie

Misako Kano

Japanese avant-jazz composer Misako Kano performs five original pieces, accompanied by bassist Mark Helias, saxophonist David Liebman, and drummer Satoshi Takeishi.

Alan Silva

Alan Silva is a seasoned veteran of the free jazz and New Music scenes. Here he conducts the Visions Orchestra in his ambitious new composition: Vision I.

Hazardous Materials

Hazardous Materials is now known as Ethyl; the dynamic string quartet is caught here in  performance early in their formation.  Joined by special guests Mark Dresser and Evan Ziporyn, they perform work by John King and Evan Ziporyn.
